What’s Included in a House Cleaning Visit (and What’s Not)

house cleaning service

One of the most common frustrations people have when hiring a cleaning company for the first time is not knowing exactly what they’re paying for. “Standard cleaning” can mean different things depending on who you ask. And the gap between what you expect and what the team delivers is usually where dissatisfaction starts.

This guide breaks down what a typical house cleaning visit includes at Asubra, what falls outside the standard scope, and how to customize the service so it fits your home and your priorities.

What a standard house cleaning visit covers

Our standard recurring visit focuses on the rooms and surfaces that need the most regular attention: kitchens, bathrooms, living areas, and floors. The team follows a consistent checklist so results stay reliable from visit to visit.

Kitchen — Counters and backsplash wiped down, sink and faucet cleaned and polished, stovetop cleaned, exterior of appliances wiped (fridge, oven, microwave), cabinet fronts spot-cleaned where needed, and floors vacuumed and mopped.

Bathrooms — Toilet scrubbed and wiped (bowl, seat, base, exterior), tub or shower walls cleaned, vanity and sink cleaned, mirrors polished, chrome fixtures wiped, and floors mopped.

Bedrooms — Surfaces dusted, beds made (if requested), floors vacuumed or mopped.

Living areas — Tables and surfaces dusted, light switches and door handles wiped, carpets and rugs vacuumed, hard floors swept and mopped.

This is what a standard house cleaning visit covers — we call it maintenance cleaning. It’s designed for homes that are already in reasonable shape and need consistent upkeep — not a catch-up job.

What’s not included (and why)

A standard visit doesn’t cover everything. That’s by design — including heavy-duty tasks in every visit would make the service take much longer and cost significantly more.

Here’s what falls outside a standard clean:

  • Inside the oven or refrigerator
  • Inside cabinets and drawers
  • Interior windows
  • Ceiling fans and high fixtures
  • Baseboards (hand-wiped)
  • Behind or under heavy furniture

These tasks are part of a deep cleaning visit or available as add-ons. If any of these areas are a priority for you, let us know when you book and we’ll adjust the plan.

Standard cleaning vs. deep cleaning

If you’re booking professional cleaning for the first time, or if it’s been a while since your last visit, a standard clean probably won’t be enough. Buildup in kitchens, soap scum in bathrooms, and dust along baseboards require more time and more hands-on work.

That’s where a deep clean comes in. It adds hand-wiped baseboards and trim, detailed scrubbing of grout lines, door frames and light switches, extra time in kitchens and bathrooms, and floor edges along walls and under reachable furniture.

We recommend starting with a deep clean to reset the home, then switching to recurring visits to maintain it. That first visit sets the baseline. Everything after that is faster and easier.

Add-ons worth considering

Add-ons let you tailor the service without upgrading to a full deep clean. They’re useful when you want a specific area handled but don’t need the entire home done in detail.

The most requested add-ons from our South Shore clients:

  • Inside the oven — Removes burnt-on grease and food residue. Popular before holidays and dinner parties.
  • Inside the fridge — Shelves pulled out and cleaned, interior wiped and deodorized. Best done when the fridge is mostly empty.
  • Inside cabinets — Only when empty. Common during move-ins, move-outs, or kitchen reorganizations.
  • Interior windows — Reachable windows cleaned inside. Makes a visible difference, especially in rooms with a lot of natural light.
  • Blinds — Hand-wiped slat by slat. Time-consuming but effective for dusty or neglected blinds.
  • Laundry area — Washer/dryer exteriors wiped, counter cleaned, floor mopped.

Most clients pick one or two add-ons per visit, or rotate them across visits. For example: fridge cleaning this visit, oven next time.

Room-by-room tips for better results

A few simple preparations make a noticeable difference in how thorough the cleaning turns out.

Kitchen: Clear small items off counters before the visit. Dishes in the sink slow the team down. If the stovetop has heavy grease buildup, mention it ahead of time.

Bathrooms: Clear personal products off the vanity if possible. The more surface area the team can access, the better the result.

Bedrooms and living areas: A 5-minute pickup of clothes, toys, and clutter gives the team access to floors and surfaces they’d otherwise have to work around.

General: If there’s an area you want the team to prioritize, let them know. We keep client notes so preferences carry over from visit to visit.

Move-in and move-out: a different scope entirely

Move cleaning is its own category. The home is typically empty, and the goal is to return the unit to a “ready” state — either for you to move into or for the next tenant.

Move visits include everything in a deep clean plus inside cabinets and closets (when empty), inside the fridge and oven, closet shelves and rods, full edge-to-edge floor cleaning, and extra detail behind toilets and under sinks.

If you’re moving on the South Shore, let us know your timeline. We coordinate same-day and next-day cleanings regularly for clients who are on tight move schedules.
